planning

As the year passes through the midpoint  now is a perfect time to review how you've been doing and what it takes to achieve or even exceed your goals for the year.

Have you made your New Year's resolutions yet? Don't be too hasty.

Personally, I'm not really a big fan of New Year's resolutions because most people don't follow them through. And that can be much worse than not making any at all. But there are ways to use them to good effect.

Read on to find out 4 steps you must do if you're serious about having greater success in 2017.

As we take down one calendar and put up our new shiny 2014 calendar, I find it valuable to stop and reflect over the past year. I like to call it a "post mortem". A time to contemplate the successes and failures of the past year - a look back to count your blessings, think about the lessons learned and new insights gained.

Many small business owners tell me they just don't have enough time for marketing.

Often with all the demands of a business it can feel like you're being pushed & pulled between a long list of things to do. You barely have enough time to take care of your current clients and complete the ever growing list of things to do that often marketing goes by the wayside.

Remember Steven Covey's  book "7 Habits of Effective People"? One of my favorites was Habit #7 --  the importance to sharpening your saw.

Suppose you were to come upon someone in the woods working feverishly to saw down a tree.

"What are you doing?" you ask.

You know that goal setting is a smart idea. And you may have even heard that setting and working towards goals is likely to make you 40% more income.   But still you don't manage to keep at it long enough to get the results you're wishing for...

Yes, it's January and the usual time of year to reflect on the past and dream of better things to come. But you've got to ask yourself - what's going to be different this year?

Are you excited about all the possibilities of 2011?  Have you spent some time yet on figuring out what you want to achieve -- and how to get there?

One of my favorite Einstein's quotes is "Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results." Now I want you to be honest - how many times have you done that with your business?

Yep, I bet many of you are nodding your heads. We want things to be different but so often we just fall into the rut of how it's always been and keep plowing ahead - hoping that "this time it'll be different"  ... and it's not!

Recently I came across a postcard that said, "Perfect is the enemy of good." At first, I thought: now wait a moment - isn't perfect good?

I was brought up believing that doing something perfectly was... well, good. It was, after all - perfect! Now before I get carried away here splitting hairs between perfect and good, I must admit I've been a victim of holding back, waiting till everything is absolutely right before I begin or complete a task.
